What

La Meva Salut is an app created by the Catalan government to help citizens access all their health information in one place. As a user myself, I noticed many pain points and confusing elements in the app. In 2024, I decided to conduct research to identify the main areas for improvement.

Who

I led the evaluation of the project as my first independent UX Design Research initiative. I chose to analyze La Meva Salut because it is widely used by the Catalan population, has clear usability issues, and relates to public policy—a field I am familiar with.

How

I used a triangulation of techniques to avoid personal bias: social media scouting regarding the app's use, Google Maps reviews of health centers, semi-structured interviews, and unmoderated card sorting and tree testing.

La Meva Salut is the app developed by the catalan governemnt to centralize all the health data for it's citizen. It includes a variety of functions and was key during the pandemic to get an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. After it a lot of citizens began to use the app. The most used functions of the app are:


  • Schudle an appointment with the doctor.

  • Check reports.

  • Have a calendar to check the appointments to come.

As a personal project, I analyzed the app. Being an app that was wiedley used by the general population, it was easy to find people suitable to be interviwed or surveyed.

    1. Understand attitude and expectations towards catalan health system.

    2. Detect the user flow of the app.

    3. Find friction points and dettect better architecture information for the app.

Results

"I have been trying for a while to log on my profile, and it won't let me in, I have tried to reseat password and even called 061, and there is no way"

Yes but if you make an e-consulta and in 9 days you don't receive any answer, it means that #Lamevasalut is not working as it should. And here I am, waiting…

Benchmark


Before jumping onto the analyisis I conducted a research to answer two different questions:


  • Is it true that there are usability issues with this app?

  • If so, which ones? What are people more frustrated about?

So, I used social media, coments on PlayStore and AppleSore and social media.

    • Painfoul and confusing Login process for users

    • Essential tasks like ask for an appointment are not easily doable

    • A lack of clarity on response times, generates frustration and confusion.
